Christmas Goodies

My sister Barb has a few of her 2013 Christmas creations left for sale.  They are particularly cute this year -- look at the roly-poly Santa and snow girl! You can contact her at thimblefolk@comcast.net for her 2013 Christmas items, or visit her etsy shop: thimblefolk for other stuff.

First Ever Country Living Magazine HOLIDAY BAZAAR!!!!

Barb and I just heard, on the eve of the all-consuming Sheep and Wool Festival, that we have been accepted to vend at the newest Country Living Magazine Fair.  Here's the scoop:

Join us at The Country Living Fair's Holiday Bazaar in Tarrytown, New York, indoors on the grounds of the historic Lyndhurst Mansion, December 6-8, 2013. We promise great holiday shopping, book signings, and a chance to meet the editors!  Friday, 12 -6, Saturday, 9-6, Sunday, 10-5.

I am so excited!  We will not be doing the Wilton Historical Society Show this year because of a scheduling conflict (we will be at the Fiber Festival of New England that weekend), so I am tickled pink to have another top notch venue to sell our stuff.  If you've never been to Lyndhurst, it is a castle that sits high on the bluffs overlooking the beautiful Hudson River, right next to the Tappan Zee Bridge.  Its the perfect setting for a Christmas show.  Mark your calendars!

Celebrating the Season

My rug hooking guild, the Peconic Ruggers, celebrated the season today at the home of sisters Sally and Sue.  Their beautiful house, not far from the shores of Peconic Bay, was a wonderful place to spend the afternoon.  We have had  torrential rain and lots of wind all day, but who cares about gray skies when there's good company and good food around?

Sue and Sally had decorated for Christmas -- there were handcrafts and antiques throughout the house. I fell in love with this tree in the kitchen.
And how about this rug?  The border makes me smile . . .
A sweet tableau on the sideboard.
Feasting.

Decoys in the kitchen.
Thanks to Sally and Sue for a great day, and to my fellow guild members for another year of crafting and companionship!

The Primitive Gathering Christmas Shop

Yes, another post within an hour of the last . . .   I forgot to mention that The Primitive Gathering opened its Christmas shop this morning.  My sister Barb, aka thimblefolk,  has some festive and beautifully made woolen creations available for sale there, as well as in her Etsy shop .  Please take a look!  The Primitive Gathering

The Earth Moved!

I was sitting at my sewing table yesterday morning and it started . . . . dancing!  There's no other word for it . . .  I thought the oil delivery guy was in the driveway -- that always makes the house shiver a bit.  But then I realized he filled up the tank last week . .  .  I got up and looked out the window -- nothing was happening -- so I sat down and went back to work.  When I turned on the evening news, I discovered there had been an earthquake, just off the south shore of Long Island.  Earthquakes aren't unheard of on the east coast, but they aren't common, and I can't remember actually feeling one here before . . .

I woke up this morning thinking about Christmas.  The holiday feeling has escaped me until now.  I haven't thought about the decorations or the shopping or the wrapping or the cookie baking. But I'm working on it now!  I unearthed my Christmas music and am listening to it as I type this.  I've started my gift list and I think I am going to do my tree in snow this year:  white lights, snowflakes, and glass icicles.  I'll post pics when I put it up, which won't be for a week or two -- it is still a little early for me.

And thinking about the upcoming holidays -- today is the first day of Hannukah!   I almost missed it, it is so early this year . . .   So Happy Hannukah and Shalom to all of you celebrating today.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

I've been getting ready.  We got the tree up last Friday, just in time for my rug hooking guild's Christmas lunch on Sunday.  I've been cooking and baking and wrapping gifts.  Clara took her last final yesterday and drove home.  It's very festive around here!

We are expecting a blizzard tomorrow -- a real nor'easter with up to 12 inches of snow and 45 mile an hour winds.  I'm thinking of baking spritz cookies and meringue mushrooms, and curried chicken for dinner while the snow is flying! Maybe we'll have a white Christmas after all . . .

An Appropriate Christmas Gift . . .

I am -- quite obviously -- fond of antique paisleys. My sister Barb found a lovely piece of paisley on ebay just before Christmas and look what she made out of it -- for me!

I love his carefully needle felted face and his little lantern with real glass and his beard (fleece from her friend Martha's sheep) not to mention the exquisite piece of paisley. I may have to keep him out all year long . . . Now if only I can get my studio clean enough to find a spot for him . . .
