April Fools! No, actually, it really is here, despite the chilly temperatures. I spotted my first osprey of the year this morning while walking Cairo. The hyacinths and daffodils are about to bloom, and we may need to mow the lawn in a week or so.
We had a lovely Easter with visits from friends and a good dinner of leg of lamb, asparagus, and fresh spinach from Pete's garden. I didn't sleep well the night before, however, and I ended up making lots of mistakes all day. In the process of making a pound cake, I dropped a huge dollop of sour cream which splattered everywhere. Got that cleaned up, finished the batter and popped it in the oven only to realize I had forgotten to add the eggs! (It tasted fine in the end.) While I was cooking dinner, I put a pot of Irish oatmeal on so breakfast would be ready this morning and it boiled over and made a huge mess. I moved it to another burner, cleaned up the mess, and promptly forgot about and it boiled over again and burned to a crisp. Another mess to clean up. Pete and I hung some new wooden blinds in the guest room and I knocked over an entire chai latte -- it went in the bureau, under the bureau, in front of the bureau. More clean up. I was so very happy to go to bed last night!
Before we went to sleep we watched Steven Spielberg's Lincoln. What was all the hype? It was ponderous and plodding with scene after scene of politicians arguing . . . I think I nodded off a time or two, not surprisingly.
Anyway, I made a successful batch of oatmeal this morning and we enjoyed it while listening to the birds out in the garden. The weatherman says a few more days of chilly temperatures and then we'll be on the upswing. Now I have to go scrub the burnt stuff off the pan that has been soaking since yesterday.

Happy Spring Sarah, I'm glad that when things go wrong on some days, we have a chance to make a fresh start on a new day, (after a good night sleep) lol.
I'm back home and I'm resuming where I left of 5 weeks ago. The snow is gone except a little spot here or there in the shade and my tulips are starting to poke out of the ground here and there.
I just baked a batch of Cinnamon Biscuit Rolls and I'm indulging.
I'm glad I didn't go to the cinema to watch Lincoln. My husband wanted to see it but I heard that it was very boring.
I hope you enjoyed your oatmeal this morning - I enjoy Bailey's on my porridge/oatmeal!
I should add that I only take porridge with Bailey's on the weekend as a treat!
I think it is quite common to serve whiskey on porridge in Scotland!!
